Perfect Remains by Helen Fields
DI Luc Callahan is assigned the case of Elaine Buxton, which is rapidly changing status from missing to murdered. He is battling his demons which are life altering for him and he tries, with every single fibre of his being, to escape its shadow, but he can't. He's partnered with the brilliant DI Ava Turner. They form a reluctant team at first but she is the only one to welcome him and make him feel part of the force. The case takes so many turns that when the conclusion arrives it does smack you in the face with shock. I can't remember what I was searching for but I came across this book's recommendation. It's intriguing to say the least! Helen Fields has written each character brilliantly and you start rooting for them. For Luc, for Ava and for Natasha. The madman who kills women and the things he does to them, show how far obsession can really take a person.
