Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard by Rick Riordan

Before I read this book, I knew about Norse mythology only through the Thor movies and the Vikings series.

Once again it took one week to finish these books and fall in love with it and obviously re-read it multiple times since. The most prominent aspect of this series is the inclusivity of LGBTQIA+ characters, the religious blend of Islam and Norwegian and the acceptance of so much diversity.

My takeaway from these books was prominently that we as people have the capability and capacity to accept, understand and live in harmony despite being so different. Do we do it? Well, not always.

Magnus Chase finds himself facing people, Gods and situations he knew nothing about. His loss is one so deep, its part of him and yet he uses it to save everything and everyone. We run into two brilliant demigods from Camp Half blood but the balance of their story is seamless, there is no overpowering of one on the other.

This series mainly deals with loss, because almost every character has lost family members or people closest to them and yet they persevere, train and are ready to fight at Ragnarok. Valhalla is, well, pretty intense but in a fun way. The characters we meet and cool and intimidating and so lovable. The Gods are once again, pretty awesome to read about and you're once again forced to question if the Gods are really righteous and good or we believe what we're forced to?

The books are pretty fast paced and you won't put them down, that's for sure. Please do read it, just to appreciate how incredibly the worlds and religions blend in.

I give it a 4.5/5
