Iron Flame - The Empyrean book 2 by Rebecca Yarros

I started reading this book over last weekend and finished it last night. So the riders are back, new and old. The second book of the Empyrean series revolves around Violet, who has survived her first year despite the attempts on her life and now she has been thrown into the deep end again to save the people she loves from an enemy, nobody believed existed.

Long! That's what I can say about this book. If you haven't read the first one, then be warned, there's mild spoilers ahead. Violet and Xaden try to work on their relationship and it gets to a point where you want to smack them both upside the head and tell them to either be together or just break up. Many secrets are revealed, some shocking, some not so much. There is a lot of description of the land, the history, sometimes a bit repetitive and some very long paragraphs. I couldn't remember much and maybe that's not a good thing.

It's good to see Dain understand the truth. My favourite characters in this series were Rhiannon, Ridoc and Sawyer. - incredible badasses and true friends! The novel begins exactly where the last one ended. There is a war coming and the fight against the enemy cannot be won so easily. Truths hidden come to light and the good guys end up being the bad guys and vice versa. Varrish deserves a special mention because I hate him and wish I could punch the living daylights out of him. Author @rebeccayarros writes her characters well! 

It took a looong time to get to the end but the conclusion was worth it. Oh, and the dragons! They are the best! I love all 3 of them - Tairn, Andarna and Sgaeyl. Ah, I so love the banter between Andarna and Tairn, it's so much fun! 

I liked the first book better but I understand why the second may have been long. It's a good read and if you're becoming a fan like me, do read it. Don't forget to eat and sleep!

Harry Potter by J. K. Rowling

This has to be the first entry on my bookstagram page. I have never been able to fully explain to anyone what it is about Harry Potter and why I still read it, cherish it and love it even 20 years after having read it for the first time. Maybe it's the fact that I read the Philosophers Stone when I was being bullied in school and I had practically no friends and no support. Therefore, reading about the boy who lived under the stairs who had hope and was rescued and admired and found inseparable friends, sparked a fire in my heart. The entire series taught me so much about bravery, loyalty, friendship, family, choices and facing life. It still feels like a warm hug, like a friend speaking to me from far and telling me everything will be alright. I have gone on to read sooooooo many more books (hoarding many too) but I always, always read the Harry Potter series every quarter.
