Never Lie by Frieda McFadden
Tricia and Ethan are newly married and on the lookout for their dream house. They end up at an inspection of a manor in a remote location; which belonged to Dr. Adrienne Hale, who disappeared four years ago in this house. They are unfortunately stuck there due to a massive snowstorm. Their only option is to stay at the manor until the snow clears. But will they emerge out of it the same as they entered or will the manor reveal its secrets and change their lives?
Tricia has an eerie feeling about the manor immediately but Ethan seems incredibly at ease and is all prepared to buy it and move in. Being bored and having no mobile network, Tricia explores the house and finds Adrienne's secret closet of tape recordings. Dr. Adrienne Hale was an extremely prominent psychologist and psychotherapist, who consults patients at home and records them with consent, which helps her to help her patients better and of course use the material for her best selling books. The one thing you can never do with Dr. Adrienne is Lie to her. She knows, she always knows.
Tricia starts listening to the tapes marked Luke, PL and EJ, which reveal more about Adrienne and her final days. All of this has been missed by the cops because they never found this stash of recordings. The truth reveals slowly and the ending will come as a shock; because author @fmcfaddenauthor leads you to think one way and pulls out the rug from under your feet the next minute.
I finished this book in a day. I liked it. The characters written are strange and not very likeable. You are suspicious about some and concerned for other, but turns out that it should've been the other way around. Adrienne and Tricia stand out, this is their story - the people the truly are and the lengths to which they will go to get what they want.
I am a bit confused about a few things in the book though but I will give it the benefit of the doubt. I will read a few more books of the author, especially The Teacher as it comes recommended by a friend.
I rate this book 3.5/5.
